Associating objects with their names is an important lesson when learning to speak. Most learning tools use stock images for dog, Mommy, or bottle which confuses the child because they aren’t pictures of his dog, her Mommy, or their own bottle. Words I Know was designed for this very reason to help our little ones learn the words for things they know in their own lives with the voice of a loved one.

The app allows you to take photos of everything around the house including people and pets and then record your voice to describe it. So instead of “Dog” being a picture of someone else’s dog, now it can be a picture of their own dog. Instead of a photo of a random man with “Daddy” under it, you can take a picture of their real Dad and record your voice saying “Daddy”. The app will then cycle through each word randomly saying the word 5 times, each time the app shows the image from a different perspective to help your little one learn the word association with each object better.

Learning the words for everything is difficult when first learning to speak. Make it easier by taking pictures of all the things in their environment and recording your own voice describing it. The simple, elegant, and fun interface when coupled by your soothing voice will keep your little one be entertained while they learn.

Tips:

1) Take photos of the object so the object is in the center of the screen and doesn’t fill it completely. This will make it easier for cropping later within the tool.

2) Instead of saying “Cat” for your cat, use the cat’s real name like “Cuddles” or record it twice saying “Cat” once and “Fluffy” the next so both words are learned.

3) Want to change the music? Turn the music volume down or import your own but it’s recommended to use instrumentals as they are better because otherwise the words in the music conflict with the words being spoken by you.
